Being a woman and jewelry owner, I found myself constantly frustrated with the longer necklaces hanging from my "tree" and still lying on my dresser. The jewelry tree(s) were never tall enough to keep my long necklaces raised off the surface of a dresser or counter top. So one day I thought "Maybe I should make something that fits my needs? And if I'm having this problem maybe others are a well." This set my crafting mode into high gear.
I've always enjoyed things that have a natural look to them or things that remind me of nature. So it was a good assumption that I'd be drawn to materials that incorporated these elements. I found a piece of wood I liked and I stared at it for a day or two before getting a sense of what the finished work should look like. I was so proud of that first jewelry board I made. I thought it was hot stuff! And who better to give a new creation to then your sister? It was Christmas time and I decided that I should gift a few of my jewelry displays to those nearest and dearest to me. (Looking back at that first piece, I can now say that it wasn't as hot as I thought. But thank goodness sisters are loving, forgiving and see our potential. Thanks Anna for seeing past the crooked lines and believing in me. You're the best.)
My sister was ecstatic. She said she had the same problem I did and loved that this piece was slender and would fit in her bathroom. My friends encouraged me to start making more artistic jewelry displays. They loved that they were not only functional, but beautiful and artsy.
And therein lies the beginning of my journey as a new Etsy shop owner. Starting my own shop is something I never dreamed about doing! Those endeavors were always for someone else. But now I'm the "someone else." This is an exciting adventure and I can't wait to see where this shop takes me!
My prayer is always that each piece I create would bring a smile to a face and fill a home with beauty. I look forward to working with each of you.
